Fantasy Football Week 4 Links

Last minute addition:  Got an hour before kickoff? Give a listen to RotoExperts Pat Mayo's (@ThePME) Week 4 Preview.

Dave Richard's Week 4 Trade Values Chart: Always a great resource for player values.  Serves as a "rest of reason ranking" also.

Boris Chen's ECR Tiers : A must read for your start/sit questions.  In a nutshell, he takes Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR) from FantasyPros, does some mathematical modelling to group the players into tiers, and plots the results.  I look forward to this post every Thursday!  Join the conversation on reddit.

Nerdballmagazine.com's Defense Wins Championships - Week 4.  A must-read for the streaming-D connoisseur.  I'm dropping the Pats D without hesitation because this guy is telling me to.  That's how much I trust this.  Join the conversation on reddit.

CBS Sports' Jaime Eisenberg's Week 4 Waiver Wire Report.  Jets WRs?  Surely you jest.

numberFire's Week 3 Recap: Trends.  Excellent analysis.  Entertaining read.  What more do you want?

numberFire's Week 3 Start 'Em Sit 'Em

Check out numberFire for their Week 3 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em column for those tough line-up decisions.

I'm going to be listening to them in keeping Josh Gordon on the bench on Sunday.  As a result, he's guaranteed a TD.

Dave Richard's Week 3 Trade Value Chart

I'm going to be perfectly honest with you, I don't trade in fantasy football.  I think it all stems from my first season playing, when I foolishly shipped away Andre Johnson for Santana Moss.  Moss promptly got injured and AJ promptly blew up.  Suffice to say, I was soured to the experience.

But I'm a changed man this season.  I'm more informed than I've ever been.  I'm reading more.  I'm on twitter.  I'm listening to podcasts.  I'm on r/fantasyfootball on reddit.  I'm doing everything in my power to stay on top of this great game we play.

One of the resources I've used so many times this week already that it warrants its own post is Dave Richard's Week 3 Trade Values Chart.  The man just posted #1 overall accuracy for week 2 according to FantasyPros, so I trust this guy's opinion.  This is a great resource when trying to piece together who is worth what.

As always folks, buy low, sell high.  Good luck!

Week 3 Rankings Tiers by Boris Chen

Boris Chen has just posted one of my most looked-forward-to articles of the fantasy football week:

Visualized Tiers and Ranks

In a nutshell, he takes expert consensus rankings and runs them through a mathematical algorithm which organizes the players in to bunches, or tiers.  These tiers make it much easier to make start/sit decisions about certain players.  Excellent content!  Give that guy a follow!

TRich to Indy; McGahee works out for the Browns

Big news out of the NFL this evening...

Trent Richardson has been traded to the Colts.

and..

Willis McGahee is working out for the Browns

McGahee becomes a must-add in all formats if he becomes the starter in Cleveland.

The biggest loser in this is Ahmad Bradshaw, who will now be relegated to backup duties.

Week 3 Deeper Players with Great Match-ups

Fantasy Football Rule #1: Start your studs.
But sometimes you can't.  Below is a look at some of the deeper players (many of whom may be on your waiver wire) who may have a great week based on the match-up.  Call it informed speculation.

QB Alex Smith @ PHI:  Great match-up against one of the worst pass defences in the league.  In their last 16 games, the Eagles have allowed 34 TDs & had just 7 INTs.  Since half-time in Week 1, the opposing quarterback has completed 72% of their passes for 695 yards, 5 TDs and 1 INT against the Eagles.  Smith is a low QB1/high-QB2 with upside this week.  This is also great news for Dwayne Bowe.

RB Joique Bell @ WAS:  Bush is nursing an injured knee and may not go.  Even if he does, I love Bell this week against a Washington defence that made James Starks look like a superstar.  Bell is a must-start flex or even RB2 this week.

RB Bilal Powell vs. BUF: This would be a desperation Flex play, but Powell is facing a Bills D that is averaging 140 yrds/gm to opposing RBs (to Vereen and DeAngelo).  If you're in injury trouble, he could have a decent day but don't expect 14 points.

WR Kendalll Wright vs SD:  Both Chargers games so far this season have turned out to be shoot-outs.  Look for Kenny to put up solid WR2 numbers with upside against a porous San Diego secondary that's averaged 375 passing yards allowed through 2 games.  This is also good news for Jake Locker, though I still don't think he's worth a start.

WR Mohamed Sanu vs GB:  No question that AJ Green will likely steal the show here, but if you're particularly thin at WR, Sanu has a decent matchup when you consider that the Bengals will likely be playing from behind.  The Packers have allowed a whopping 360 yards/game passing.  This is more of a desperation flex play.

WR Nate Burleson @ WAS: For the same reasons listed above for Bell.  The Redskins D is just terrible.  This would be a desperation flex play, but I would consider it if Bush can't go (one less mouth to feed).  This is obviously great news for Matthew Stafford too.

TE Charles Clay vs ATL: The Falcons are another team that gets thrown on a lot, and have allowed almost 700 yards passing through 2 games.  With Mike Wallace drawing the most attention, look for Brian Hartline and Clay to step up.  Clay is a decent low-TE1/high TE2 play.

TE Colby Fleener @SF:  Dwayne Allen is out for the season.  Fleener will be looked to by Luck to step up, though the match-up against the 49ers is less than savoury.

DST Minnesota Vikings vs CLE:  Weeden's banged up, Hoyer will be QB.  The Browns O-Line is allowing a ton of sacks.

Week 3 Waiver Wire Adds

Running Backs

*updated Wed, Sept 18th

Willis McGahee*: On the breaking news out of Cleveland, it seems Trent Richardson is on his way to Indy.  Willis McGahee is reportedly working out for the Browns and as of right now, is a leading contender to be the starter in Cleveland.  If this pans out, McGahee becomes a must add in all formats as a potential starter.

Bernard Pierce: Looks like Ray Rice won't go.  Pierce is a must-add in all formats

James Starks: I personally don't like this pickup, but if you're a Lacy owner you might have to do this for the short term, even if you don't play him against the Bengals.  He's on Bye week 4.

Jacquizz Rodgers: Steven Jackson is out 2-4 weeks.  Rodgers figures to be the lead back.  Can't expect much more than a desperation flex option from him going forward though.  Jason Snelling may actually be the better back here.  This smacks of RBBC; I'd recommend you avoid it.

Wide Receivers

Eddie Royal:  There is no way this guy keeps it going, but with Malcom Floyd out, he's going to get looks in the re-vamped Chargers throwing game.  He's a must-add and could be a solid WR3 in Week 3 against the Titans.

DeAndre Hopkins: Should be owned in all leagues, but check to make sure.  Buyer beware, the Texans have a bit of a rough stretch ahead.

Nate Burleson: Broyles is out and the Lions are facing the hapless Redskins D.  Burleson becomes a sneaky WR3/flex play Week 3, particularly if Bush's knee is acting up in any way.

Tight Ends

Charles Clay: There's a lot of buzz coming from Miami around this guy.  Could be worth a look if you need a TE2.

Quarterbacks

Philip Rivers:  No way he keeps his 30+ point pace going, but it's clear the passing game has had a resurrection in San Diego.  Rivers is a solid depth add QB2 and even a potential starter going forward.

Sam Bradford:  Worth an add for QB2 depth.

DST

Vikings:  Nice matchup on the Browns

Buffalo:  Nice matchup on the Jets

Note:  Check out Nerdball for all things defence.  This guy is a DST genius.
